September Writing Challenge Day 5

To prepare for this years nanowrimo I will do prompts by @the.plottery for September and October.

Today’s prompt is: Write a dialogue only scene of a fight between two family members

“Stop it, you always do that”

“Do, what?”

“That thing you do with the throttle. You do that at every lift off!”

“That’s how Dad did it! I am just treating the old girl like he did. Ships require familiarity.”

“Both Dad and you have no idea about combustion mechanics. There is a reason why the ship was grounded every other month!”

“Oh just because you got a fancy engineering degree you can waltz in and tell me how to run the family business. The business I kept running while you dilly dallied at school!”

“Don’t you start with that! I busted my ass to go to school and get my degree. I came back when you asked me too and since I am back we can do all the repairs ourselves. I could charge the family business for my services! Drive adjustments cost 500 credits a pop out there!”

“Don’t you dare do that, you know we are barely scraping by!”

“I did not say that I would do that. I just want the ship to be treated with care and the thing you and Dad do with the throttle eats through the ceramic stabilizer rings, those things are expensive.”

“Ok, ok, I will stop it! Damn, it was easier when it was just Dad and me. You are always nagging.”

“Dad is dead and I am all you have left. If you do not want me here I can leave. Plenty of opportunities with my fancy degree.”

“I know he is dead, I was here. Unlike you.”

“If you told me he was dying, I would have come. But I only found out when I was calling for his birthday. Three months after he died.”

“I said, I was sorry. Things were hectic back then.”

“Then don’t hold it over me!”

“Okay, I’ll stop it.”

“Good. Thank you.”

“Are you serious about looking for other work?”

“No, I am not. But I would like to have my professional opinion respected. I am not just your little sibling anymore, I am also an engineer.”

“Ok, I’ll try to remember.”
